His Excellency the Ambassador, Mr. Edward Y. Sawerengera hosted the 2017 Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) fellows from Malawi, to a dinner, at the Embassy of the Republic of Malawi in Washington D.C, on 1st August, 2017.

In his remarks, the Ambassador expressed immense joy and pride in the achievements of the fellows at such youthful ages. He acknowledged the diverse background and expertise that the fellows had, which included their involvement in youth engagement, and working with adolescents with HIV; supporting rural communities; advocating for the rights of the most vulnerable especially girls and women; banking and finance, as well as their leadership in agribusiness, recycling, waste management, and technology.

He encouraged them to be change agents for a more prosperous Malawi and urged them to remain stewards of their ship. He further encouraged them to mentor and support someone and share with them the experiences that they had learnt through this Fellowship.
