Chichewa Tutor Required For A Student Ethnographic Researcher

The Embassy has received a request to assist in identification of a Chichewa tutor for an undergraduate student .

Michela Del Mastro is a student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill who is currently planning a year-long research project in Malawi for one year from July 2018 to July 2019. Michela will be in Washington DC from January to May 2018 and is looking for a Chichewa tutor who would be available for two to three times a week for the time she will be in Washington DC.

Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera Declared Winner in the 2020 Malawi Presidential Election Re-run

On June 27, 2020, the people of Malawi elected His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera as President of the Republic of Malawi for a term of five years following the Fresh Presidential Election that took place on June 23, 2020.
His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera was sworn into office by the Chief Justice of Malawi on Monday, June 28, 2020 with Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima as his Vice–President.
His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera formally took over the Office of President of the Republic of Malawi on Monday, June 29, 2020.

Embassy of the Republic of Malawi participated in the 6th Annual Winternational Embassy Show case

The Embassy of the Republic of Malawi in Washington, DC participated in the 6th Annual Winternational Embassy Showcase for the first time on 6th December, 2017 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. This important program is uniquely created for embassies to advance their public diplomacy (cultural, tourism, and trade) initiative. Over 3,000 guests showed up and 38 embassies exhibited and sold examples of their handcrafts, shared information on travel and tourism in their countries or presented educational displays of current mission initiatives.

Increase in incidents of arrests abroad of Malawian Nationals on drug trafficking offences

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has noted with great concern the increase in incidents of Malawian Nationals, mostly young women, who are being arrested and detained abroad on drug trafficking offences. In the past month, two young Malawian ladies were recently arrested at Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for trafficking dangerous drugs and are currently in detention awaiting trial.
