Forse sì forse no.

La filosofia è comunemente vista come un argomento poco pratico, non molto utile, datato. Oggi la filosofia è una delle materie più rivalutate, proprio per il suo intrinseco potere di essere un insieme di principi, idee, credenze che aiutano a interpretare e definire i modi di ragionare e quindi di agire.

Ci aiuta ad indagare chi siamo e perché siamo.

È un argomento brillante, considerando la quantità di input che influenzano le nostre vite quotidianamente e che ci mettono di fronte a dubbi continui sulla nostra autenticità, sul nostro diritto di essere fedeli a noi stessi.
Quando Valeria Trabattoni, filosofa e consigliera di Filosofia Amica mi ha chiesto di collaborare al suo progetto che unisce moda e filosofia, mi sono sentita onorata.

Sin dall’inizio ho promosso la natura interdisciplinare del mio lavoro, cioè il potenziale della consulenza d’immagine di entrare in contatto con altri modi di affrontare la vita, il mondo, le persone … noi stessi.

E con questo duetto, probabilmente abbiamo colpito l’obiettivo. Penso che sia un po ‘difficile capire, a prima vista, cosa può essere divertente e stimolante in un workshop di 3 ore che ha come protagonista la filosofia.

Ma ci sarà molto da sorridere e, un po ‘da pensare. La pratica filosofica di porre domande, di indagare sulla nostra realtà, di scoprire cosa c’è dietro, ci aiuterà a guardarci allo specchio in modo diverso.

Sul nostro corpo, su come è fatto, su come ci è stato dato dalla natura e su come agiamo in suo favore, ci sarà così tanto da dire, ma solo dopo aver capito chi siamo veramente, saremo in grado di trovare una soluzione pratica e raggiungere l’obiettivo che ci siamo prefissati.

Non è questione di sembrare più alti o più magri, non è né il mio desiderio né il mio compito di metterti a dieta o di farti notare che se un giorno finissi sulla copertina di Vogue, quel rotolo di grasso non è proprio il massimo (nonostante i possibili rotoli potrebbero essere cancellati dalla tecnologia).

Qui andiamo oltre! Lavorerai con chi sei ora, grazie alla filosofia e alla consulenza d’immagine, un nuovo specchio su cui riflettere: sarà un modo, per aiutarti a capire che, come ora, vai bene e ti aiuterà a diventare ciò che vuoi essere. L’immagine personale può essere una cosa superficiale, ma è così superficiale che è il primo strato che colpisce l’occhio di chi guarda: che esso sia il tuo occhio allo specchio o quello della persona che incontrerai.

Ogni occhio vede ciò che conosce, ogni occhio attinge dal suo infinito database di immagini ed esperienze, per valutare se tu, come ti presenti, vai bene o no. Non è ciò che dici che può far cambiare idea a qualcuno o costruire una prima impressione, si tratta di forme, stili, colori.

A novembre 2019, a seguito della conferenza nazionale di Rete al Femminile a Torino metto insieme un po’ di ispirazioni e dico alla mia allora tirocinante boliviana, Mariana, che sarebbe bello creare un blog di moda e bellezza che possa diventare un punto di riferimento per tutt* coloro che dalla moda e dalla bellezza si sentono esclusi.

Anche Liliana e Andrew, anche loro tirocinanti allora e collaboratori ora, hanno abbracciato la mia idea e oggi esce DiversityStylingByVirgoImage un progetto di VirgoImage indipendente ed blog internazionale dedicato a tutt* che parla di moda, cosmetica, bellezza: 3 tipici settori che, come disse l’attrice e modella transgender Americana Hari Nef in questa intervista    per  the Business of Fashion, hanno il potere di dirci chi va bene e chi no.

DiversityStylingByVirgoImage è aperto a tutt* – l’obiettivo non è solo quello di raccontare storie ma di dare consigli ed informazione concrete per sentirsi meglio nei propri panni, accettarsi, valorizzarsi senza snaturarsi e soprattutto… scoprire dove acquistare o a chi rivolgersi per esigenze specifiche.

Non avrei mai potuto fare tutto questo da sola e sono grata ai miei colleghi di avventura, a chi ha voluto essere intervistato per le mie Live su Instagram ed a tutti coloro che hanno deciso di credere nel progetto ancor prima che andasse online.

Angela Bianchi was born in Udine, in North-Eastern Italy, in 1982.

At the age of 18 she moved to Milan to study PR and Advertising at IULM University and started working as a tradeshow organizer and marketing manager.

In 2007 she discovered Personal Image Consulting and Personal Shopping and got deeper knowledge in the field through specific courses in Milan and abroad. She was also among the founders of the first Milan Chapter of AICI.org (Association of Image Consultants International).

As a personal development path through body self-acceptance she decided to address people with everyday styling needs, to offer her personal styling services. Since 2009 when she started first with a blog and later with a registered agency called VirgoImage, she’s met over 5000 clients from all over the world with different needs, all conducting to the one, same request: “ Support me in building self-confidence and flattering unique beauty through clothes, colors and style.”

In 2014 she decided to quit her job as a TradeShow organizer to dedicate fully to VirgoImage. In the last 6 years she has not only met individual customers but also developed special educational programs for those willing to start a business in personal image consulting or to improve their existing skills: she counts students coming as far as Australia to learn and experience with real clients, how the beautiful job of Personal Image Consultant is carried out in Italy.

Despite her clients being more individuals rather than companies, she can enlist cooperations with Philips, Kiabi, CosaBella, Stilettissimo, Yoox etc…

Fascinated by out-of-the-box approach of young talents, she has favorably embraced mentoring opportunities to international students.

In 2019 she started making research about a more inclusive fashion and got in touch with activists and professionals around the world, committed to embrace diversity in a more positive way. She noticed Italy had not much talk about fashion inclusion and decided to focus her energy in raising awareness and sharing information with the goal to stimulate the fashion and beauty industry to consider all diversities as a beneficial target of their next collections.

During quarantine she has launched the #ShopInYourWardrobe challenge: a game based on using exclusively what in your closet that soon became a metaphor to tapping into one’s inner resources. Some of the interviews that you can find on Youtube and Instagram here have been recorded during this exceptional time.

Today Angela is also the Coordinator of the newest Fashion and Luxury Culture Dpt at the Milan Campus of the European School of Economics, a special program that promotes education, research and projects in fashion and luxury based on authenticity, sustainability and inclusion!

Perchè Montecatini Terme?

Un giorno la mia allieva Patrizia di Ciommo mi disse.. perchè non portiamo il tuo corso in Toscana? Montecatini Terme è bellissima, ha una storia anche stilistica invidiabile, bellissimi negozi, sarebbe il luogo perfetto per tenere un corso su Come Diventare Personal Shopper.

L’idea in effetti non mi sembrò per niente male e cominciammo a lavorarci. Patrizia poi ha anche una formazione per cui ci avrebbe permesso di approfondire alcuni temi legati allo sviluppo dell’attività, per proporvi un corso che non desse solo le basi teoriche ma soprattutto pratiche.

Desidero e desideriamo che questi due giorni, il 5 e 6 settembre 2015, non siano solo un accumulo di informazioni che potete trovare anche sui libri o su internet gratuitamente, ma un’esperienza completa che vi faccia toccare con mano cosa significa essere un consulente di immagine ed un personal shopper professionista e soprattutto che sia da stimolo anche per chi desidera cominciare sin da subito a lavorare.

I miei corsi sono pensati per darvi gli strumenti necessari anche per lavorare su voi stessi: noi siamo i nostri primi clienti!

Ma poi gli altri come arrivano? Parleremo anche di questo, vi aiuteremo a trovare il vostro primo cliente e anche quelli successivi!

Ok, ma una volta trovato come lo gestisco? Niente paura, ti forniremo un metodo che potrai usare e modellare a seconda del tuo stile di lavoro.

Quanto dovrò studiare prima di cominciare? Non lo possiamo sapere – noi stesse continuiamo sempre ad aggiornarci e a formarci ma questo corso ti darà le basi tecniche per cominciare e per capire che direzione far prendere alla tua carriera.

Non tutti i miei allievi hanno deciso di diventare consulenti di immagine e personal shopper nel modo che lo intendo io- c’è chi ha deciso di sviluppare la sua attività di coach e di tirare fuori la consulenza di immagine solo nei momenti più opportuni.

C’è chi ha deciso di avviare un’attività come personal shopper per far conoscere itinerari alternativi puntando più sull’esperienza unica della città che sulla consulenza individuale.

C’è chi ha capito che la sua idea iniziale non era proprio quello che desiderava fare ed è riuscito o riuscita a dare una svolta alla sua carriera focalizzandosi su ciò che realmente vuole offrire alla sua clientela.

Ma tutti hanno capito che le potenzialità sono tante e hanno da subito cominciato a lavorare sulla propria immagine. Qui puoi trovare alcune testimonianze.

Parleremo di forme, di colori, di personalità, di moda e di business. Usciremo assieme e andremo per i negozi. Avrete la possibilità di lavorare con altre persone e mettervi alla prova sin da subito.

A few years ago, this data wasn’t taken into account in the cosmetics industry. Generally, there were few foundation tones, as well as few concealer tones and powders that companies believed were diverse enough. However, in 2017, Rihanna started her revolution towards inclusion in the fashion and beauty industries. After launching Fenty Cosmetics, consumer expectations and mindset changed, creating new demands for the cosmetics industry. When Fenty came out with a collection that had over 40 shades of foundations for individuals of all colors, the standards in consumers’ minds changed, demanding companies to create makeup products that would be inclusive for people with different skin tones but also taking into account cultural norms and preferences. It seems unrealistic to think that before Rihanna’s revolution, many individuals wearing makeup had to combine multiple products to create a foundation that matched their skin color. 

Thankfully, the industry instead of seeing this as just a “trend,” is starting to understand that inclusion goes beyond that. Due to the rise of social media, consumers are voicing their need for products that are personalized and suitable for different individuals. With this in mind, new brands are finding their way in the industry to make a difference. We’re not only seeing these changes in the United States but also in Asian countries where brands like Orce Cosmetics are creating makeup lines to meet the unique demands of their culture. These brands are becoming global and recognized because inclusion is about making individuals feel confident in their own skin. When using makeup, people shouldn’t feel isolated or left out due to their skin tone, allergies, cultural beliefs, or ideals. Instead, makeup should be a tool that makes individuals feel powerful, presentable, and ready to take over their next challenge professionally and personally. 

For this reason, inclusion in the makeup industry goes beyond just considering different skin tones. Instead, it requires two-way communication between businesses and consumers where they can voice their preferences and concerns and be heard. This is the reason behind many local cosmetics companies finding their way in the industry because they are listening and taking into account individuals’ need to feel beautiful and empowered. Along these lines, younger consumers love exercising their creativity. Brands are adopting this mindset together with the need for inclusion, and creating new ways and ideas on how to feel beautiful and remain confident in your own body. Clear examples of these are brands such as, Urban Skin Rx, Hello Ava, and SA.AL & Co which are creating skincare products for black women that did not exist before, customized skin care and makeup packages based on consumer needs, and skincare products for men which are not always a priority in the industry. Finally, consumers are expressing the need to expand the range of skin tones in the models that promote the products. The reason behind this is that people rely on how the product looks on the model, especially when buying online. This also applies to having store representatives from different ethnicities, nationalities, and skin color because they help clients find the best products for their skin and their needs based on these considerations. 

If we continue to push this inclusive, creative, and diverse standard for the cosmetic and beauty industries, we will make a difference now and for the generations to come. 

Our task is to use Rihanna as an inspiration to pave the way for inclusion and self-acceptance. I invite you to use your social media platforms and any other tools you may have access to, to voice our concerns and needs, and to create a better tomorrow where everyone can feel beautiful and empowered in their own skin.
